Texas Health Steps

Ask your dentist about dental sealants for your child. A dental sealant is a clear plastic material put on the back teeth that can help prevent tooth decay.

You can get these services by calling your child’s PCP and/or dental provider to make an appointment. Tell the person on the telephone that you want to schedule a Texas Health Steps appointment. These checkups are important and should be set up within 45 days of your child joining the health plan.

Your child may go to any Texas Health Steps Medicaid provider for Texas Health Steps services. Most of Cigna-HealthSpring’s PCPs who treat children are also able to offer Texas Health Steps services. You may want to talk to your child’s PCP first. Also, do not forget to show your Cigna-HealthSpring ID card and your Texas Benefit Medicaid card to the provider.

You do not need a referral for Texas Health Steps services for your child. We suggest you talk to your PCP if you plan to go to a non-Cigna-HealthSpring PCP for these services.

You should call your Texas Health Steps doctor as soon as you know that you need to cancel a Texas Health Steps checkup. When you call, be sure to setup a new time for your child to be seen. Many providers want to be called 24-hours before the checkup time. Call if you will miss your child’s checkup.
